For many years now, Mike Henderson has been successfully organising by email a small group of members who wish to play tennis on a Sunday morning. For a while now, the Tennis Committee has been examining ways in which we can also offer full members the opportunity of Sunday morning social tennis, which has been somewhat restricted in the past due to our Yeovil & District League commitments during the winter. After careful consideration in the Tennis Committee and with the kind co-operation of Mike H, Grahame Bennett who runs the YDL winter team(s) and Mike Williams in his role as YDL League Secretary, we have come up with an imaginative solution for Sunday Social tennis which we will trial for the remainder of this year.
Sunday Social will be different from the open, turn-up-and-play sessions offered on Wednesday evenings and Thursday afternoons. Mike H has kindly agreed to open up his existing, organised group to all full members and continue to organise it by email, with players being asked on a weekly basis whether or not they are able to play on the next Sunday morning. Available players will be allocated to “fixed fours” on a first-come, first-served basis. Play will take place from 10.00am until 12 noon at the latest, with proper matches comprising multiple, full sets. The Club will initially allocate two courts to the session with the possibility of adding a third, should the move prove successful. Interested members should contact me (Keith Mason) by email (keith.mason@humbugpr.com) if you would like to be added to the current list of players and I will pass your details on to Mike H.
To accommodate this new Sunday Social session, commencing with the start of the winter season in November, the YDL home matches will be moved to the afternoon with a start time of 1pm. The usual two courts every week will be allocated to the match requirement.
